The WNBA All-Star festivities commenced with flair beneath the city's renowned Artsgarden, hosting the She’s Got Now Empowerment Luncheon that gathered an inspiring assembly of trailblazers, mentors, and emerging talents.
Organized by founder Tomeka B. Holyfield, the event celebrated individuals who have transformed their respective domains, including sports agent Ticha Penicheiro, MNIT Coach of the Year Dawn Thornton, Angelia White, founder of Hope Magazine, Robert Shegog, president of The Indianapolis Recorder, Indiana's own Tamika Catchings, and WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes.
Young girls from various organizations such as the Urban League and The Mind Trust experienced a historic moment as the 2025 Glass Ceiling Breaker Award was awarded to Sheryl Swoopes, a name synonymous with women’s basketball.
In her speech, Swoopes expressed immense enthusiasm for the WNBA's progress, articulating her joy for every player currently receiving their due recognition. To conclude, Holyfield announced that starting in 2026, the award will be renamed The Sheryl Swoopes Glass Ceiling Breaker Award—an appropriate honor for someone who has continually broken barriers.
