Mary Magdaline White, dean of students at South Carolina State University, passed away on May 10, 2024. She was 56 years old. At the time of her death, White had been a member of the South Carolina State University staff for two decades. She began her tenure with the university as a secretary in the Brooks Health Center. She later transitioned to serve as the student service program coordinator for the Dr. Emily E. Clyburn Honors College, ultimately receiving a promotion to her most recent position as dean of students. Prior to her tenure with South Carolina State University, she held positions with Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School, Brookdale Elementary School, and historically Black Voorhees College in South Carolina. White was a two-time HBCU graduate. She received her bachelor’s degree in sociology and criminal justice from Claflin University in South Carolina and her master’s degree in transportation and civil engineering from South Carolina State University.
