International Freedom Conductor Awards Continues To Fight For The Underdog

On Saturday, September 27, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center organized the International Freedom Conductor Awards, an event sponsored by Procter & Gamble, and hosted by the esteemed Tamron Hall, a two-time Emmy Award-winning journalist. This inspiring gathering attracted over a thousand attendees, including community members, civic leaders, and corporate supporters of the Freedom Center. The International Freedom Conductor Award represents the Freedom Center's premier accolade, honoring individuals whose lives exemplify the bravery of those who risked everything on the historic Underground Railroad. Among the 2025 honorees are significant figures such as Lonnie G. Bunch III, Opal Lee, Toni Morrison, John E. Pepper Jr., and Isabel Wilkerson. The event featured music from artists like Deborah Cox and Syleena Johnson. In his closing, Woodrow "Woody" Keown Jr. encouraged audience members to embody the spirit of conductors for justice in their lives, underscoring that anyone can contribute to promoting equality.
