Trump's Visa Suspension for International Students at Harvard Blocked by Judge After University’s Legal Action

A federal judge has blocked President Donald Trump’s latest effort to prevent international students from attending Harvard University. The temporary restraining order issued late Thursday by US District Judge Allison Burroughs followed an urgent request from the university in light of Trump’s recent proclamation suspending new student visas. International students comprise approximately 25% of Harvard's enrollment. Burroughs underscored that immediate intervention was necessary to prevent irrevocable harm ahead of a mid-June hearing regarding the proclamation’s indefinite suspension. The amended lawsuit contends this action violates the First Amendment by temporarily barring almost all new international students. Harvard President Alan Garber emphasized the vital contributions of these students and criticized the proclamation as retaliatory against the institution’s mission and academic integrity.
