By Damario Solomon-Simmons\Justice for Greenwood Foundation Photos: YouTube Screenshots I wanted to share some reflections from our recent event, “The Burning Truth,” where we came together to discuss the profound impact of historical tragedies like the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and the 1955 murder of Emmett Till. The conversation was not just powerful—it was a call to action that deeply resonated with all of us. One theme that stood out was the concept of power—the power to determine who holds a place in society and the power to enforce that through violence. This was vividly illustrated in the Tulsa case, where an entire community was annihilated with no accountability. The destruction of 40 blocks, home to over ten thousand people, resulted in more than two hundred million dollars in property damage, with thousands of lives disrupted and unanswered questions lingering to this day. We know that the pursuit of justice begins with uncovering the truth, which is why we are demanding that the Department of Justice open a federal criminal investigation pursuant to the Emmett Till Cold Case Act of 2008.
