Calixte “Kakal” Xavier, a seasoned law enforcement officer and vibrant entertainer, has officially entered the political arena, completing the United Workers Party's (UWP) roster for the imminent general election. He will face off against Moses Jn Baptiste, the current MP of Vieux Fort North, who has held the seat since 2006. Xavier made his announcement during a UWP gathering over the weekend, asserting, “I am not here to entertain or perform; I am here as a leader.” His transition to politics is underpinned by a significant public presence, having garnered attention as both a police figure and a musical commentator. Historically, he has voiced criticism of the existing government, particularly via his songs. At the UWP event, he raised pertinent questions about crime, challenging the administration's strategies. “Why is there no state of emergency when our streets demand attention?” he queried, igniting a passionate response from attendees. In his inaugural political address, Xavier positioned himself as a catalyst for change, promising to rejuvenate Vieux Fort North. He declared, “I am your humble servant, ready to transform neglect into progress.”
