I have always viewed storytelling as a means of liberation. Documenting and elevating our communities is both powerful and vital. I’m thrilled to announce my new position as Lead Reporter for Black Economic Justice, Food & Culture at The Defender, one of the nation’s most radical and unapologetically Black media outlets, particularly at this crucial time. The organization’s belief in journalism as a form of intervention resonates deeply with me. Our discussions centering on my title emphasized that it's not a "Black Capitalist" role; rather, we recognize the necessity of highlighting Black economic power, especially given the loss of nearly ten Black restaurants in 2024 alone. My mission integrates media, movement, and memory, amplifying the voices of Black chefs, healers, and innovators defining a vibrant Black economy in Kansas City while openly challenging systemic oppression.Stay connected for exciting initiatives like Black Feast Week and resources for Black-owned businesses. Reach out if you know remarkable individuals or stories to share; this endeavor is about collective empowerment and beauty. I’m eager to begin this journey!
