A man from South Carolina is confronting hate crime allegations following footage where he is seen shooting a firearm at a Black jogger, referring to him as “boy.” Reports from Atlanta Black Star indicate that Jonathan Felkel faces charges including hate intimidation, assault and battery of a serious nature, and possession of a weapon during a violent incident linked to the July 17 assault in Richland County. Surveillance captures Felkel parked near a gated community at approximately 6 a.m., retrieving a rifle from his vehicle and firing at the passing jogger. Afterward, he entered the community, yelling, “Keep running, boy.” Fortunately, the jogger escaped unharmed. Felkel confessed to officers his intention to shoot at the jogger, stating, “I was going to shoot at him.” Both men reside in the same neighborhood but are unfamiliar with each other. Felkel is the inaugural individual charged under Richland County's newly enacted hate crime law.
