Following an extensive survey of 800 government-owned plots in Eau Piquant, Pomme, Augier, and Cantonment, officials have revealed that residents are set to receive formal land titles within the upcoming fortnight. Additionally, another 200 lots in Belair have been surveyed. This initiative is part of a broader land rationalization strategy that aims to award ownership to individuals who have resided on Crown or state-owned land, measuring less than 8,000 square feet, for over 30 years. The phased implementation began as announced by Prime Minister Philip J Pierre during his April budget speech. During a recent House of Assembly session, Housing Minister Richard Frederick offered an update on the progress. He stated that residents in the aforementioned areas would soon receive letters detailing their specific land allocations, paving the way for deeds of donation from the Government of Saint Lucia. For those residing on Crown lands for less than 30 years, the government proposes a sale rate of $2.50 per square foot. Frederick confirmed this endeavor would extend to locations including Gros Islet and Dennery North. He emphasized clarity regarding the law and sought to correct misunderstandings about land entitlement after 30 years of occupation.
