Minister Imhotep Elijah Alkebulan, a prominent figure at Sacramento’s Wo’se Community Church, passed away on August 22 at the age of 67. A devoted spiritual and community leader, he dedicated his life to enlightening Black individuals about their heritage and the greatness of their ancestry.Born in Oakland on March 10, 1958, Alkebulan was the eldest son of Wilfred and Virginia Harvey. Both a Catholic and Baptist, his early upbringing firmly rooted him in faith. A talented musician, he participated in the Oakland Children’s Chorus and was heavily influenced by community activism during his formative years. His academic journey at San Francisco State University highlighted a profound passion for African history, aided by notable scholars. After founding a sister church in Sacramento in 1986, he emphasized the church motto, “Know Thyself.” Alkebulan, who also worked as a network engineer, leaves behind a legacy enriched by wisdom and cultural appreciation. He is survived by his wife, Doris, and his two sons. Services will be held on September 3 and 6.
