Castries, June 12, 2024 – Technical teams from the St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) responded to reports of a member of the public sustaining an electrical shock, on Tuesday June 11, 2024, in Piaye, Choiseul. Based on preliminary reports, the individual was fatally injured on a construction site while handling a metal object that came into contact with high-voltage power lines. Managing Director, Gilroy Pultie expressed condolences on behalf of the Company, “Our sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased following this tragic incident.” LUCELEC urges members of the public to exercise caution and maintain a safe distance of at least ten feet from overhead power lines, especially when operating or handling objects. “The incident is under investigation and underscores the critical importance of heightened awareness and safety around high voltage electrical infrastructure,” added Pultie.
