On Saturday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Luka Doncic has finalized a maximum contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, amounting to $165 million over a three-year span. Midway through the last NBA season, the 26-year-old Doncic was unexpectedly traded to the Lakers. Joining forces with LeBron James, Doncic's initial half-year in the iconic purple and gold was satisfactory, contributing to the team’s playoff berth. Unfortunately, their postseason journey was cut short as the Minnesota Timberwolves ousted them in five games during the first round. In the 2024–25 season, Doncic showcased his skills with averages of 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game.Although Doncic had the option to wait for an even higher contract as an unrestricted free agent next summer, he opted to affirm his commitment to Los Angeles promptly. Charania notes that this agreement ensures Doncic remains with the Lakers until 2028, positioning him for yet another lucrative contract worth approximately $500 million.
