A search and rescue operation has been underway since Sunday afternoon after a Martinique fisherman fell into the waters of the Saint Lucia Channel.
The Channel is a strait separating Martinique to the north and Saint Lucia to the south.
The circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the Martinique fisherman were not immediately clear.
However, a release from Martinique’s Prefect disclosed that the Antilles-Guyana Regional Operational Surveillance and Rescue Center (Marine Directorate) learned of the incident at 1:05 p.m.
The information triggered a massive air and sea search and rescue operation that included helicopters and privately owned boats.
The search continued on Monday.
