During a board of trustees meeting on August 25, DeSoto ISD approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Education Is Freedom (EIF), a nonprofit organization based in Texas. This partnership seeks to provide comprehensive college and career access services at DeSoto High School, underscoring the district’s commitment to equipping students for future success. This initiative also aligns with funding eligibility criteria outlined in Texas House Bill 3, focusing on college, career, and military preparedness.“There’s no initial cost to the district for this partnership,” explained Dr. Stephanie McCloud, chief academic officer. EIF will finance the services initially, with reimbursements drawn from future performance-based funding linked to student achievements. This approach aims to enhance opportunities and improve post-secondary results.The agreement encompasses EIF’s diverse programs, such as tailored advising, academic planning, financial aid support, and family engagement initiatives. Dedicated advisors will guide 11th- and 12th-grade students through their transition to post-secondary opportunities.
