Michael Strahan‘s refusal to cover his heart during the playing of the national anthem has sparked an unexpected and, to be honest, ridiculous controversy this week.
Although there was some social media response at first, things got more heated on Wednesday when a Daily Mail reporter contacted Strahan about the topic outside of his house. The Hall of Fame defensive end seems to seize the reporter’s phone, which was being used to record him, in a video that the publication posted.

For the first time, Strahan officially addressed the topic in a video that was uploaded to Instagram late Tuesday night. He also acknowledged that he was “not proud of the way I handled that situation” with the reporter, but he insisted that he was taking the necessary steps to “protect” his life and his family.
Regarding his behavior during the playing of the national anthem, which was broadcast on Fox NFL Sunday in observance of Veterans Day from Naval Base San Diego, Strahan maintained that he was not in any way protesting. He said : “Everybody thought, ‘He’s protesting. He’s making a statement,’ which is so far from the truth,” ....
