Ministry Urges Adequate Water Storage Amid 2025 Dry Season

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Rural Development has urged Saint Lucians to implement measures to ensure adequate water storage and efficient management amid the 2025 dry season. Now in its second month, the traditional dry season, which runs from December to May, often brings significant rainfall deficits that can range from moderate to severe. The ministry has therefore encouraged Saint Lucians to store as much water as possible. It advised that key factors to consider when planning water storage include: household, farm, or business size; frequency of water use based on activities; and potential disruptions in water utility services The ministry also promoted rainwater harvesting as a supplementary water source. “The impact is positive as the results are immediate after every rainfall event. The months of December and January typically have the highest rainfall volumes (for the dry season); however, it rains any time of the year, even at the peak of the dry season. This means that a rainwater harvesting system is beneficial year-round,” it said. “As weather patterns continue to vary, building resilience in our water supply systems is essential.
