Montell Jordan, renowned for his iconic 1995 track “This Is How We Do It,” has disclosed the recurrence of his prostate cancer. Initially diagnosed with Stage 1 prostate cancer in early 2024, Jordan's elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels prompted surgery to remove his prostate. He showed promising recovery, performing with Usher just two weeks post-operation. However, during a September 3 appearance on the TODAY show, the 56-year-old shared that follow-up screenings revealed “tiny amounts” of cancer in lymph nodes and the prostate bed, leading to an upgrade to Stage 2, a more aggressive cancer form. Jordan is now set to undergo proton radiation therapy for seven weeks and utilize hormone blockers to mitigate testosterone, which encourages cancer growth. Despite challenges, he remains hopeful, emphasizing the importance of early detection. Additionally, Jordan plans to share his experiences in a documentary titled Sustain and advocates for routine screenings, particularly for Black men, who face a higher risk of prostate cancer.
