In northern Mozambique, July witnessed the displacement of tens of thousands of individuals due to armed group assaults, intensifying the dire situation in Cabo Delgado. This recent upheaval is part of a broader series of crises impacting the nation, which includes violence, climate concerns, disease outbreaks, and financial shortages.Since the beginning of 2025, approximately 95,000 individuals have fled Cabo Delgado driven by insecurity and insufficient humanitarian assistance. In the last week of July alone, attacks displaced at least 46,667 residents from Chiúre, Ancuabe, and Muidumbe, with Chiúre experiencing the brunt, losing over 42,000 individuals, predominantly children. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) highlighted the prevailing insecurity affecting the displaced, limiting their access to basic services and livelihoods. Internally, families are crowding into Chiúre Sede due to violence, and in Ancuabe, displaced families surged significantly, affecting nearly 2,000 people. Muidumbe's residents also faced devastating losses, with homes burned and families fleeing. OCHA stresses the urgent need for sustained funding to avert further humanitarian crises.
