The Metropolitan School District (MSD) of Lawrence Township is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Lawrence Advance Academy (LAA), a transformative credit recovery program for at-risk high school seniors.& A reception honoring the milestones is set for 4 p.m. on Nov. 12 at the Lawrence Education & Community Center.& The event recognizes a decade of LAA’s dedication to helping students from Lawrence Central and Lawrence North High Schools reach graduation through a flexible, supportive learning environment.& Established during the 2014-15 school year, LAA fuses teacher-led and online teaching to help seniors who have faced obstacles in traditional school settings.& & The program provides a tailor-made approach with small classes and one-on-one sessions, fitted to assist students in expediting credit completion.& & It was one of the first initiatives of Shawn A. Smith, MSD Lawrence Township’s Superintendent.& “LAA is not just a program but a lifeline for at-risk students, empowering them to achieve their dreams.” Smith said in a statement.& The program’s success is evident in the district’s graduation rate, climbing from 87% in 2014 to 95% this year.& & MSD of Lawrence Township continues its mission to be a “district of destination,” with nearly 17,000 students enrolled across its schools...
