Nashville Disability Community to Hold ADA Accessibility Protest Monday

Nashville, TN& – The Greater Nashville disability community is organizing a protest to advocate for improved ADA accessibility and equitable services. The protest will take place on& Monday, August 19, 2024, at& 9:30 AM CT& at& Metro 1 Public Square, located at the corner of 3rd Avenue North and Union Street, Nashville, TN 37201. The demonstration is expected to last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
According to the organization, despite repeated efforts to address the situation through advocacy, there have been numerous reports of individuals with disabilities missing critical healthcare appointments, being stranded alone at work overnight, and experiencing other declines in the quality and safety of WeGo Access paratransit services. The sudden and inexplicable contract loss of Mobility Solution, a commonly requested and preferred 3rd party ADA overflow provider, has had severe repercussions.
Mobility Solution is uniquely equipped with ADA-compliant trained staff and a fleet of standard or oversized wheelchair-accessible vehicles. The resulting impact is now profoundly negatively impacting community members who are blind or low vision, power or manual wheelchair users, diabetic seniors on dialysis, and others with disabilities throughout all of Davidson County and beyond.
