The Roberts Family Development Center (RFDC) organized a National Day of Social Action at River City High School, West Sacramento. Over six weeks, students of color crafted posters and showcased their talents through poems, songs, and dances, emphasizing the value of public education. This initiative was part of the Children’s Defense Fund, rooted in the legacy of civil rights pioneer Ella Baker, and established by Marian Wright Edelman. RFDC reported a remarkable engagement, serving more than 840 students and employing over 100 interns, marking their most active summer to date. The main objective of the event was to empower young people, enhance literacy proficiency, and fortify community bonds. This dedication to uplifting youth through creative expression reflects a vibrant commitment to fostering educational awareness and civic participation in the community.
