NCOPT Commits To Upgrading Public Transport

The National Council on Public Transportation (NCOPT) has underscored its commitment to improving public transportation in Saint Lucia. Bus drivers recently discussed and provided feedback on a Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) report regarding the improvements. The comprehensive report has brought to light a range of issues that are of public concern. These include late-night service, reliability, driver professionalism, dress and grooming, and the quality of buses. The 100-page document also recommended bus upgrades. NCOPT President Godfrey Ferdinand disclosed that bus operators, in turn, suggested using bigger vehicles on some routes. “There were a lot of suggestions that we can take care of and intend to do so,” Ferdinand told St. Lucia Times. The NCOPT President reassured the public and the sector that his organisation was fully aware of the necessary steps to upgrade the sector. However, he acknowledged there needed to be an implementation timeline. As a result, Ferdinand said the NCOPT and other stakeholders would decide on one.
