NCOPT To Seek Compensation Over Road Damage To Minibuses

The National Council on Public Transportation (NCOPT) plans to seek legal advice regarding compensation for damage to its members’ vehicles due to poor road conditions. “We will be much firmer this year regarding contractors doing the roads that are causing a lot of damage to our vehicles,” NCOPT President Godfrey Ferdinand told St. Lucia Times. However, he emphasised that the Council would seek compensation, not confrontation. “The Council is right now seeking legal advice on how we can deal with these contractors to see how we can get compensation,” Ferdinand stated. The NCOPT President indicated that Council members experience challenges navigating the West Coast and East Coast roads. “The West Coast Road is a nightmare for our guys. It is also a nightmare for taxis because right now, they have to pass all through Vieux Fort to go to Soufriere,” Ferdinand disclosed. “You go down Vieux Fort to make $400, and you incur $600 in vehicle damage. That doesn’t make sense,” he lamented. Ferdinand declared that contractors responsible for the roadworks appear to have no consideration for road users. As a result, he said the NCOPT would seek legal advice regarding compensation for vehicles damaged due to poor road conditions...
