Black Air Force Veteran Subjected To Aggressive Texas Stop After Faulty Stolen-Vehicle Hit Misidentifies Her

A group of three Texas officers mistakenly apprehended a Black woman at gunpoint last year, misidentifying her truck as stolen. Joi Hebron, a dedicated U.S. Air Force veteran with nearly two decades of service, has since filed a lawsuit against the San Antonio Police Department for racial profiling. On July 15, 2024, Hebron was pulled over while driving her 2016 Ford F-150 to Lackland Air Force Base at around 4:30 a.m. Initially unaware of the police presence, she grew concerned when three patrol cars surrounded her. After complying with the stop, she was met with guns drawn, only to have the officers later acknowledge a miscommunication regarding her license plate. Hebron alleges the encounter has left her with lasting trauma, affecting her social life and mental health. The San Antonio Police Department has declined to release body cam footage, citing ongoing litigation, while denying racial profiling claims.
