Historic A.H. Parker High School is set to become a vibrant cultural center on Sunday, August 10, with the premiere of “As Goes the South” in Birmingham. Produced by Ed Fields, a notable poet, essayist, and civic strategist, the film aims to reshape perceptions of the South, particularly Birmingham. “I want viewers to experience Birmingham as we do—vivid and multifaceted,” Fields shared with The Birmingham Times. He emphasizes the necessity of showcasing contemporary narratives beyond the historical Civil Rights struggles that have often overshadowed the city's growth. The film champions underrepresented voices and highlights the creative community, featuring contributors like artist Joe Minter. The score, crafted by Birmingham's own Pink Siifu, enhances this immersive experience. “The music serves as both a pulse and a connection,” Fields notes. The premiere is a free community event designed to foster dialogue and collaboration, featuring prominent local leaders, artwork, and a celebration of Birmingham's bright future. Doors open at 2 p.m. with the film starting at 3 p.m.
