A recent study by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research has revealed a growing skepticism among the public regarding the efficacy of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Conducted between July 10 and July 14, 2025, this survey involved 1,437 American adults and found that merely about one-third believe DEI efforts effectively reduce discrimination against women, Hispanic individuals, or Asian Americans. Additionally, 40% of respondents feel these programs adequately tackle bias faced by Black individuals. Alarmingly, an almost 30% segment believes such initiatives may intensify discrimination, including against white populations. The survey highlighted a notable decrease in the acknowledgment of racial discrimination against Black and Asian Americans. The recognition of discrimination against Black Americans declined from 61% in 2021 to just 40%, while acknowledgment of bias against Asian Americans fell from 46% to 30%. Despite shifting perceptions, 74% of Black participants maintain that their communities continue to confront significant discrimination, underscoring the urgent need for attention, as highlighted in the Legal Defense Fund's report.
