Nicolas Soares, a suspect in a 2010 murder case in Miami, has been apprehended in Kenya after evading capture for over a decade. While local authorities in Kenya concentrated on combating crime, Soares managed to evade U.S. Marshals effectively. As of Wednesday, the 34-year-old was booked into a Miami-Dade jail on charges of second-degree murder and armed robbery stemming from the September 7, 2010, shooting of Herbert Caniza. The arrest warrant detailed that Caniza, expecting a visitor, was shot in the chest by an assailant who then fled in a waiting vehicle. Investigators discovered a shirt bearing a "Warner Brothers" logo at the crime scene, along with drugs and money indicating sales. Witnesses reported Soares’ erratic behavior and his admission of planning the robbery. Following the murder, Soares fled, with his mother assisting in his escape plans. Miami authorities collaborated with federal agencies to track him down in Nairobi, ultimately leading to his extradition.
