The Indiana Department of Environmental Management announced the nominations for the 2025 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence are open.&
This year will mark the 32nd anniversary of celebrating innovative projects with measurable environmental benefits.&
This year, one award in each of the following categories will be presented:&
Energy efficiency/renewable resources
Environmental education/outreach
Five-year continuous improvement
Greening the government
Land use/conservation
Pollution prevention
Recycling/reuse
The Greening the government category will shine a light on communities or governmental agencies that are making significant strides towards building greener, more environmentally sustainable efforts in work or across communities. Criteria was recently updated to allow a wide array of state, county and local governments to have their programs recognized.&

Citizens, governmental agencies, businesses, organizations and educational institutions are invited to submit nominations on behalf of others. Self-nominations are encouraged. Eligible projects must have occurred in Indiana and been implemented in 2023 or 2024.&
The deadline for nominations is March 7, and the awards ceremony will follow in September. Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of conservation, environmental and academic professionals. Awards will be based on innovation, measurable results and transferability.&
