NY reparations commissioner criticized July 4, pinned climate change on ‘White Folks’

ALBANY (TND) — A member of New York’s exploratory reparations commission has called for abolishing the current criminal justice system while attributing climate change to White people, according to past social media posts.
Ron Daniels, one of nine “distinguished individuals” to serve on the New York State Community Commission on Reparations Remedies, has supported dissolving what he referred to as the “criminal injustice system” due to past trauma inflicted on Black people.
“From the slave patrols, to convict leasing and terrorizing of the Black communities by the War on Drugs, we are due reparations!” Daniels, whose comments were first reported by the New York Post, argued in February 2023. “The criminal injustice system must be abolished and restitution and compensation made to repair the cross-generational damages inflicted on its victims, Black people.”
Daniels’s commission colleague, Lurie Daniel Favors, echoed his sentiment when defending campaigns to defund police departments.
Police all across the country are literally proving *daily* why #DefundThePolice is necessary,” Favors wrote in April 2021. “I’m old enough to remember summayall claiming activists were going too far.”
