By OBSERVER NewsroomAs the 2024 General Election approaches, The Sacramento OBSERVER is hosting a 2024 Election Education Symposium at Sacramento High School on Saturday, October 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This critical event brings together candidates, community leaders, and experts to help voters navigate the electoral landscape and protect themselves from the growing threat of election misinformation and disinformation.Attendees will hear directly from candidates running for office in the 2024 General Election, including Mayoral candidate Dr. Flojaune Cofer and Roger Dickinson, candidate for City Council, District 2. In addition to the candidate forum, the event will feature a discussion group on election disinformation and misinformation, which will include insights from Philip Lewis, Senior Front Page Editor at the Huffington Post. Participants will learn how to identify deceptive information and develop fact-checking skills to resist false claims that can undermine trust in the electoral process.This event is especially vital for voters of color and marginalized communities, who are disproportionately affected by misinformation.
