(Special to The Dallas Examiner) – The Dallas Historical Society will publicly display Juneteenth Order No. 3 from its permanent collection starting June 19, honoring Juneteenth throughout the summer. This significant document will feature prominently in an immersive, rotating exhibition titled “Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom.” Karl Chiao, Executive Director of the Dallas Historical Society, stated, “The exhibition, showcasing the original Juneteenth Order, delves into the historical roots of Juneteenth and its enduring influence beyond Texas.” He emphasized the partnership with the African American Museum to enhance the celebration and public programming centered around this important holiday. The historic order reshaped American history. Though the original document resides in national archives, this version is the last remaining copy delivered to Texas in 1865, signifying freedom for enslaved individuals. The Pour Yourself Into History happy hour offers attendees a preview of the exhibition and a chance to engage with panelists. Furthermore, a free panel discussion, “Juneteenth: A Dialogue on Change and Community,” will occur on June 19 at the Hall of State. The Dallas Historical Society, founded in 1922, is dedicated to preserving Dallas and Texas's rich heritage, inspiring future generations.
