Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has congratulated Mexico’s first female President on behalf of Saint Lucia’s people and government.
Climate Scientist Claudia Sheinbaum, a protege of Mexico’s popular outgoing President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, won by a landslide.
Prime Minister Pierre observed that in a historic turnout at the polls, the people elected Sheinbaum and entrusted her with leading a development agenda for Mexico’s people.
“Saint Lucia stands committed to deepening and strengthening its relations with Mexico, President Sheinbaum and her Government,” he stated.
Observers have said that Sheinbaum’s resounding victory was significant in Mexico’s ‘macho’ society.
“We women have landed in the presidency,” she declared in a victory speech early on Monday.
At the same time, the 61-year-old promised to govern for everyone.
