Pierre Wins 100% Confidence Vote At SLP AGM – Promises Advancements To Healthcare

The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) held the closed session of its Annual Conference of Delegates on Sunday. Party delegates met to discuss urgent internal business and express their confidence in present political leader, Philip J. Pierre.
By 5pm that evening, the results of the confidence vote were in and in a post made to the SLP’s official Facebook page, Pierre was confirmed to have 261 votes of confidence to 0 votes of no confidence.
According to the party’s page, Pierre is the only SLP political leader to amass 100% confidence for three years in a row.
Addressing a crowd of party supporters, Pierre had already made announcements for the upcoming week relating to the country’s beleaguered healthcare sector. “As we speak, we are putting plans together to have a new emergency ward at the Old Victoria Hospital. Tomorrow, God willing, we are beginning to gut inside of there,” he said.
Healthcare concerns have been a constant criticism levied against the government by the Opposition United Workers Party. The government’s new tax, the Health and Citizen Security Levy of 2.5%, is intended to raise $33 million yearly which would go towards national security and healthcare infrastructure.
