350,000 Cardiac Fatalities Tied to Plastic Chemicals: Valuable Knowledge Uncovered

Heart disease remains the leading cause of mortality globally, influenced by conditions such as coronary artery disease (CAD), hypertension, high cholesterol, and smoking. A groundbreaking study attributes around 350,000 heart disease deaths worldwide in 2018 to chemical compounds found in plastics. Conducted by researchers at NYU Langone Health, the study highlights the phthalate DEHP, a plastic additive that intensifies oxidative stress and metabolic disturbances. This report reveals that DEHP exposure accounted for approximately 356,238 fatalities in 2018, significantly impacting individuals aged 55 to 64. Regions including the Middle East and South Asia faced the greatest losses, with DEHP-related deaths comprising over 16 percent of cardiovascular fatalities in those areas. Given these insights, immediate legislative measures on plastic use are critically warranted.
