The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) posted an advisory on its Facebook page, alerting motorists to various road traffic violations and the penalties they attract.
The violations included non-compliance with traffic control directions and devices, a ticketable offence carrying a fixed $500 penalty.
Operating a vehicle in a condition that is not road-worthy would attract the same fixed penalty.
The police issued the advisory regarding traffic violations amid a sharp spike in road accidents despite repeated safety warnings and appeals for restraint and self-discipline from the authorities.
Road accidents dominated Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) trauma responses for the major part of 2024.
According to SLFS data, as of the end of August, there were over 577 trauma responses to incidents involving vehicles and motorcycles.
