Police Lecture Cadets On Topics Including Gun, Gang Violence

Gun and gang violence were among the topics addressed when Saint Lucia police gave lectures to members of the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps.
The lectures occurred amid an alarming surge in gun violence, primarily responsible for 48 homicides so far in 2024.
The Vulnerable Persons Team (VPT) of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) delivered the lectures on Saturday, July 20, and Friday, July 26, 2024.
The venue was the Roblot Combined School in Choiseul during a July 18-29 Cadet Corps summer camp.
According to a police release, Cadets between eleven and eighteen heard the first lectures addressing ‘vital topics’ such as substance abuse and sexual offences.
The release noted that “these sessions aimed to educate and empower young cadets, equipping them with the knowledge to make informed decisions and avoid potential dangers.”
In the latter half of the lectures, the officers addressed the cadets on the pressing issues of gun and gang violence.
The police said, “These topics are particularly relevant for young individuals, as understanding the risks and consequences associated with such activities can significantly impact their lives and future choices.”
