The Police Traffic Department in Castries has reported an ‘alarming rise’ in fraudulent driver’s licences and warned that it poses a ‘significant’ road safety threat. Acting Corporal Avanniell Melville said the practice also undermines the transportation system’s integrity. “Over the past several months, our department has observed a trend of individuals engaging in the production and distribution of counterfeit driver’s licences,” Melville disclosed. She said the Traffic Department was collaborating with relevant stakeholders to address the issue and apprehend those responsible. Melville urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. She warned that having a fake licence is a criminal offence punishable by law. In addition, the Acting Corporal said unqualified individuals operating vehicles endanger the lives of all road users. Melville urged individuals with information regarding the issue to contact the Crime Hotline at 555 or use the Crime Hotline App in the Google Play Store.
