On October 10, Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) proudly inaugurated its innovative “Emerging Educators” Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program at Pittsburgh Brashear High School. This initiative aims to develop a local pipeline of aspiring teachers by offering students practical classroom experience, industry-recognized certifications, and college credits while remaining within their school environment. The event also marked the inception of a partnership with Point Park University, facilitating students to earn a minimum of 15 college credits towards an education degree, thereby providing a significant head start.“Today signifies a crucial step in our investment in students and the future of our district,” stated Superintendent Dr. Wayne N. Walters. This program equips participants with critical credentials, including Act 31 Mandated Reporter training, OSHA Safety Certification, and certification in CPR and First Aid. Angela Mike, Executive Director of Career and Technical Education, emphasized that nurturing future educators is essential, particularly in communities that need them most. The launch also honored retired educator Hannah McCarthy for her contributions toward creating pathways in education.
