Amos Nyanway, a Texas corrections officer, is under scrutiny for allegedly running a covert fast-food scheme within the Travis County Jail, reportedly charging inmates an eye-popping $6 per chicken wing. This shocking case certainly raises questions! Nyanway aimed to exploit a gap in the prison market, but now he confronts serious legal repercussions and faces incarceration in the very facility where he served as an officer.On August 21, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office announced that an officer from the Security Threat Intelligence Unit had discovered evidence indicating that Nyanway may have trafficked contraband, specifically chicken wings, to inmates. A former U.S. Army service member, Nyanway began working with the sheriff’s office on June 17 of last year but was terminated on October 14. Subsequently, he was incarcerated in the same jail.Sheriff Sally Hernandez publicly voiced her disappointment, reinforcing the high expectations placed on staff. Nyanway now risks up to six months in jail and fines that could reach $2,000.
