A Tennessee resident has been incarcerated on a $2 million bond after allegedly provoking violence through memes featuring President Donald Trump and the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk within a Facebook group organizing a vigil for Kirk. As reported by The Tennessean, 61-year-old Larry Bushart, Jr. faces charges related to mass violence threats on school grounds, following his posts in a local Perry County community group. One meme showcased Trump’s remark after a tragic school shooting in Perry, Iowa in January 2024, where one person died and seven were injured. Bushart captioned, “This seems relevant today,” prompting reactions from group members who interpreted his message as a threat toward Perry County High School, site of a recent mass shooting. Sheriff Nick Weems emphasized the considerable concern from teachers, parents, and students, suggesting Bushart knowingly incited fear. He’s among the first charged under a controversial state law enacted in July 2024 that criminalizes threats against educational institutions. (Credit: Tennessee Sherrif’s Office)
