In a statement directed to CBS News and supported by a federal court submission, R. Kelly’s legal representative asserted that the singer was discharged from a hospital against medical advice after being treated for an overdose linked to receiving "a lethal quantity of medication" from prison personnel. Attorney Beau Brindley is urging the court to allow a transition for Kelly from the North Carolina penitentiary to home confinement. In the court documents filed on Monday, Brindley voiced concern for Kelly's safety, stating: “Mr. Kelly’s life is in danger, with the menace originating from Bureau of Prisons officers tasked with his protection.” He further alleged that the Bureau is "endeavoring to eliminate" Kelly to conceal misconduct associated with the investigation of his case.CBS News is currently awaiting a response from the Bureau of Prisons. Following treatment, Kelly had been moved to Duke University Hospital, which also postponed comments pending discussions with the Bureau.
