RANCHO CORDOVA — On September 23, the City Council approved the transformative Cordova City Center project, featuring a 7,500-seat arena designed to revolutionize sports and entertainment within the Sacramento-Cordova area. This ambitious development, costing $1 billion and spanning nearly 40 acres, will enhance one of the city’s most bustling locations along Trade Center Drive, near Sunrise Boulevard and Highway 50.The council meeting was lively, with strong public support; approximately 20 individuals voiced their enthusiasm, leading to cheers and celebrations upon the project's approval. Mayor Siri Pulipati hailed this initiative as a remarkable milestone, emphasizing smart growth and community engagement. Developer Joshua Wood highlighted that the project aims to cultivate a true downtown experience, complementing the new entertainment venue with mixed-use residences and substantial retail space. Groundbreaking is anticipated for early next year, with the arena slated to open in fall 2027, further enriching the region’s cultural landscape.
