UK’s Edinburgh University Tied to Historic Racist “Science”

A recent report has unveiled that the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom significantly contributed to the development of racist pseudo-scientific theories and gained considerable wealth from slavery.In the 18th and 19th centuries, Edinburgh emerged as a hub for academics who advocated misleading concepts centered on white supremacy. Established in the 16th century, the university's founding resources were linked to slavery and colonial exploits.Sir Peter Mathieson, the university's leader who initiated this inquiry, described the results as “hard to read.” He expressed deep remorse regarding the institution's financial gain from systems causing immense suffering and its impact on racialized ideologies that adversely affected marginalized communities.Key findings include the university soliciting donations from alumni associated with slavery, possessing 15 endowments linked to slavery and colonialism, and holding 300 skulls of enslaved Africans for phrenological studies.The authors of this report urge the university to utilize these funds for hiring Black and minority scholars and supporting research against institutional racism.
