First AME In Los Angeles Welcomes Rev. Dr. Timothy E. Tyler to the Pulpit

At the conclusion of the Southern California Annual Conference on September 28, the esteemed Reverend Dr. Timothy E. Tyler was appointed by Bishop Francine A. Brookins to lead the First AME Church (FAME) in Los Angeles. Previously, Dr. Tyler pastored Shorter Community African Methodist Episcopal Church, Denver’s oldest African American church. He follows Rev. Robert R. Shaw II in this significant role.Reverend Tyler hails from Jackson, Mississippi, and grew up in Los Angeles. He is the son of the late Bishop Carolyn E. Tyler Guidry and Cary Bernard Tyler. His academic accolades include a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary, a Master of Divinity from the Interdenominational Theological Center, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from Morris Brown College.Dr. Tyler has held numerous pastoral positions, including Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Church in Santa Ana, where he introduced innovative community ministry initiatives. His endeavors include organizing the Resist Forward Summit and serving as convener of the Resist Forward Coalition. Recognized repeatedly for his community service, Dr. Tyler has received several prestigious awards and serves as a board member for various organizations. He is married to Dwinita Mosby Tyler, with whom he shares three adult children.
