RFK Jr. and COVID Misinformation: A Threat to Black Public Health?
News Talkby Toter 2 days ago 34 Views 0 comments
Throughout the pandemic, Black children faced disproportionate hospitalizations for COVID-19, while pregnant Black women showed a markedly higher mortality rate during childbirth compared to their white counterparts. Strikingly, Black individuals represented about 18% of all virus cases and 20% of deaths, despite constituting only 13% of the U.S. populace. Infected Black children had double the hospitalization rates of white kids and over five times the likelihood of needing intensive care. Compounding these issues, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently declared the cessation of vaccine recommendations for children and healthy pregnant women, raising significant alarm. Experts emphasize that this decision could endanger vulnerable populations, particularly within the Black community, heightening existing disparities in health outcomes.
