During a recent episode of Spark TV’s “21 Questions” show, renowned Ugandan singer Ronald Mayinja revealed the intriguing tale behind the widely popular social media phrase, Namukwaya.

Mayinja recounted that the genesis of the phrase dates back to the recording of an advertisement for the recently concluded ‘Nkwacho’ festival held at Wankulukuku stadium.
Collaborating with his musical friend Alien Skin at the Fangone Forest studio, they sought to inject energy into their show to rival the renowned Ugandan events promoter Abtex, who had prohibited them from performing at the well-known his organized end-of-year event, ‘Enkuka.’
In a strategic move to elevate their ‘Nkwacho festival’ performance, Mayinja ingeniously introduced the term “Namukwaya” into Alien Skin’s dancehall beat.

This creative addition proved to be a stroke of genius, contributing significantly to the success of their show and resonating strongly with their audience.
As Mayinja shared this anecdote, anticipation builds for his upcoming event, “Ronald Mayinja at 47” concert, scheduled to take place on Friday, March 8, 2024, coinciding with Women’s Day.
