Roots Picnic 2025 Puts Women Front and Center in Music and Culture

The 2025 Roots Picnic in Philadelphia once again celebrated women in the arts, despite facing weather-related delays before finally launching at the esteemed Mann Center. Founded by Amir “Questlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, this 17th annual festival kicked off with dynamic performances by Lady Alma. The Philadelphia favorite infused her set with infectious energy, marking her debut at this iconic event.Following her, the vibrant GloRilla electrified the Fairmont Park stage, delivering an exhilarating performance filled with her chart-toppers like “Whatchu Kno About Me.” Next, Nigeria's Tems entranced the audience with her rich sound. As she effortlessly showcased her hits such as “Essence,” her presence lit up the evening. Latto rounded off the night with a powerful performance, confirming her status as a musical force.Day two welcomed more remarkable female talent, including the legendary CeCe Peniston and Crystal Waters. DJ Diamond Kutz also shone brightly, embodying the spirit of innovation and artistry. Throughout the festival, Black women entrepreneurs showcased their work, underscoring their pivotal influence in music and culture since 2008.
