SacRT Flex program to replace SmaRT Ride, prioritizing low-income individuals, seniors, and disabled

Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) is set to launch a new shared-use pilot program, SacRT Flex, beginning January 2, 2025. This program will replace the SmaRT Ride, which will cease operations in 2025.The SacRT Flex program will maintain the same fare of $2.50 per ride as SmaRT Ride but will be limited to eligible low-income individuals, seniors, persons with disabilities, and teenage children of low-income parents or guardians.The SmaRT Ride service functioned similarly to ride-sharing platforms like Uber and Lyft. However, SacRT officials indicated the program’s operating costs per passenger were unsustainable given its ridership numbers.Eligibility and Application ProcessFrom December 2, individuals interested in utilizing SacRT Flex must apply in advance through the online application. Eligible users must possess a smartphone with the SacRT Flex app installed, available on both Google Play and Apple App Store.Eligible participants include:Seniors aged 62 or older
Holders of a SacRT Disabled ID card (including SSI and SSDI recipients)
SacRT GO Certified (paratransit) individuals
Low-income recipients (including those enrolled in CalFresh/SNAP, CalWorks, TANF, Medi-Cal, or SacRT’s DHA Pass)
