Saint Lucia celebrated International Public Service Day on Monday, with Public Service Minister Dr. Virginia Albert unveiling several reforms intended to transform and redefine the public sector, enhancing national service provision. This initiative is part of a week-long observance themed "Repositioning and Rebranding the Public Service to Improve Service Delivery," which will conclude after this year.Albert emphasized the vital importance of accountability in the public sector, asserting that “Public officers are financed by taxpayers and must answer to them daily.” She expressed appreciation for those delivering outstanding service and encouraged others to elevate their efforts.A significant element of the reform agenda involves modernizing legislation, including a review of public service laws that have remained unchanged for over four decades. A new code of conduct is in development with the Attorney General’s Office to bolster accountability. Additionally, public service classifications are being reconsidered to better match salaries with current market conditions. The government aims to centralize operations at the Orange Blue Plaza to promote collaboration and foster a renewed public service ethos. A strategic plan is also being implemented to help ministries direct their focus and assess progress.
