Saint Lucians throughout the diaspora are joining in the celebrations of Kwéyòl Heritage Month and Toronto, Canada is no exception. On Sunday October 20 Toxic Sounds Crew, SakPaseToronto, and Music DR Promo are inviting all Saint Lucians as well as the Kwéyòl speaking community in Toronto to their Kwéyòl Celebrations, at De Runa Banquet Hall. According to Krishna Williams of Toxic sounds; “the event promises to be a lively and immersive celebration of Saint Lucia’s rich culture and heritage”. “Jounen Kwéyòl,” he says, “is a significant cultural festival celebrating the island’s Creole traditions and as such, attendees will be treated to an unforgettable day of vibrant music, performances, games, and authentic Saint Lucian food”. The event he says starts off with a breakfast at 9 AM to be followed by games and activities at 2 PM. Live performances will also come from some of the best in Saint Lucian music, including Dennery Segment artiste Umpa as well as legendary Saint Lucian Calypsonian and former calypso and road march king De Ashanti. “The event will also feature a red carpet entrance, offering attendees the opportunity to enjoy the star-studded experience while immersing themselves in the festivities,” Williams says.
